Interpretations

1 min read

I've been listening to various interpretations of the same piece of music, and then realized the same thing applies to visual art. A prime example of visual art, the same individual interpreted by various artists:

Good Ol' Aarie:

Dr Aarie - URL Researcher
Aarie Fashions 2023 - Business Meeting
Aarie Scuba
Shoxxe's Aarie 2
The Many Moods of Aarie

All of them really develop different aspects, and I enjoy them all!

I'll get back to music later, your assignment if you should choose to accept it, is "Give it One".....

1998 Crossmen

Finals 1998 (youtube.com)

I haven't posted a Journal of late. As always, I appreciate new followers, thank you! And I also appreciate interacting with you.

I'm an old Drum Corps veteran, and well, since I have the Crossmen Logo as my icon, why not stick up a Crossmen show?

My fave part of this Pat Metheny show is the Closer, "First Circle" at 6 minutes in. I love the usage of complex meter and rhythm, the tasty precussion, and the big fat chords in the brass.

7:40, a lovely shout and some tasty work from mellophones...

8:10, another great park-and-bark shout great deep chords...

9:38, this build and the great percussive counterpoint... LOVE IT.

10:40, sweet mellophone blaze...

Big fat 9 chord at the end...

Some neat moments. Enjoy!

We're Head Over Heels for this, Low-Mile 1970 AMC Gremlin! (msn.com)

I'm not head over heels for one of these. I had the experience of driving one in the earlyd80's and I can tell you that as one friend said, "It has three gears, and the engine makes a different noise when you shift, but it doesn't go any faster."

Dad test drove one in period and bought a Ford Pinto instead. THAT'S about as condemning a choice for the Gremlin as I can think of.

Been rather down since New Year's Eve. Listened to one of my favorite tunes by the now defunct EPCOT Future Corps, enjoy.

Thanks for all the new watchers. I do appreciate you!

I realized I haven't posted a Journal in several Months. The Americans In Wartime Experience day was fun for me in that I got out, though the heat was difficult for me. The weather was perfect for my photography, but I'm wondering whether I could do something like that again. The @100 F heat was very hard on me, and the food, sunburn, etc. wasn't easy. Hopefully I'll have more projects and pics to share from yesterday and of other things.

Band season is incoming, and that also keeps me rather busy as well as Peak Season at work after that.

I deeply appreciate the watchers, and I enjoy interacting and the discussions. I'll throw up this video of a show I enjoyed seeing live before this video in 2006:

Bushwackers 2006 Stages: A 25th Anniversary Celebration - YouTube

The show musically is quite wonderfully arranged, with an opener of Hugo Montenegro's "Fanfare for the New" as the opener, "The Perfect year" as the ballad, and "Rocky Point Holiday" as the closer. When i saw this, I was rather surprised and delighted on the take on Rocky Point in that some things that are usually interpreted one way weren't done that way at all in this arrangement and were very exciting and effective.

9:57 for instance, the Bass Drums cover the original Tuba Ostinato, which was very clever. 10:13, the Shout part there is usually more of a technical moment in most arrangements, now a park and bark throwdown. 10:32 is rather clever harmonically, in that those two notes to finish the phrase are the same chord, with different emphases on what voices are used and what notes of the chord are emphasized.

At 11 minutes, i have a disconnect visually. My guess is the drill designer painted themselves into a corner and had no real solution other then prematurely placing the company front in a part before the actual musical impact. The visual package of this show is the Achilles' heel to be frank. That front shouldn't appear until somewhere around 11:14. All that being said, I do enjoy this program. The Perfect Year is their Corps song- but it's the weak spot in the Musical presentation. It just doesn't quite fit with the other two pieces very well.

Take care everyone! I appreciate your comments as always!
